Six Armenian football supporters' groups have issued a joint statement nominating former Armenia national team midfielder Gevorg Ghazaryan for the presidency of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA). The federation's presidential election is scheduled for the second half of December 2026.
The initiative is backed by Armenia national team supporters' groups FAF and Red Eagles, as well as fan groups representing four Armenian clubs:
-
Pyunik — Sector 18;
-
Ararat-Armenia — Alfa Fan Club;
-
Urartu — South West;
-
Shirak — Black Panters.
The joint statement was published under the slogan "We Demand a Football Federation." Its authors consider the upcoming election a crucial moment for the future of Armenian football and are calling for changes in the FFA's leadership.
According to the supporters' groups, the federation should be led by someone who understands Armenian football, is familiar with its existing challenges and enjoys strong credibility within the football community.
"We believe that the Football Federation of Armenia should be led by someone who has followed a career in football, knows the problems of Armenian football from the inside, lives for the game and has clear goals for its development," the statement reads.
The supporters emphasized that Gevorg Ghazaryan represented the Armenian national team for many years, played for Armenian and foreign clubs, and earned the respect of the football community.
The organizers also intend to build a professional team around the former midfielder, bringing together national team players from different generations, coaches, and experts in sports management, football administration, law and related fields.
"The team members and the development program for Armenian football will be presented in the near future. A football person. A football team," the supporters' groups stated.
FFA Presidential Election Scheduled for December
The election of the new president of the Football Federation of Armenia is expected to take place in the second half of December 2026.
On November 4, an extraordinary FFA assembly approved amendments to the federation's statutes. The changes removed requirements for Executive Committee candidates to speak Armenian and to have permanently resided in Armenia for at least the previous year.
Earlier, media reports suggested that Denis Djorkaeff could be nominated for the FFA presidency. There has been speculation that the amendments may be connected to his potential candidacy, although no official confirmation of such a link has been provided.
Against the backdrop of preparations for the December election, Armenian supporters have now publicly endorsed Gevorg Ghazaryan as their preferred candidate. However, there has been no announcement that he has officially registered as a candidate for FFA president.
