On April 24, in Batumi, the sixth day of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships took place. Medals were contested in two weight categories: men’s 94 kg and women’s 86 kg.
After six days, Bulgaria leads the medal standings for “big” medals. Another gold was secured by Olympic champion and world record holder Karlos Nasar, who confidently won in the 94 kg category. Armenia’s Ara Aghanyan claimed the silver medal.
Team Armenia also achieved a major success, winning its first “big” gold medal of the tournament and climbing to third place in the standings. The 19-year-old Emma Poghosyan became European champion in the 86 kg category.
Three categories remain: men’s 110 kg and +110 kg, and women’s +86 kg. Armenia still has strong chances for two gold medals in the men’s events and possibly winning the overall team ranking. In the women’s +86 kg category, Norwegian Olympic champion Solfrid Koanda is the favorite, though her potential victory is unlikely to affect the final team standings.
