Armenian weightlifter Ara Aghanyan claimed the silver medal at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in the 94 kg weight category.
In the snatch, Aghanyan recorded the second-best result, while in the clean and jerk he finished third. His total of 381 kg (175+206) secured second place overall, trailing only Olympic champion and world record holder Carlos Nasar, who, despite winning gold, was far from his peak form.
Final Results (Men’s 94 kg)
- Carlos Nasar (Bulgaria) — 386 kg (176+210)
- Ara Aghanyan (Armenia) — 381 kg (175+206)
- Romain Imadouchene (France) — 370 kg (163+207)
Thus, Armenia’s national team now has four silver medals and one bronze at the current European Championships.
Today, Armenia’s representatives in the women’s 86 kg category — Emma Poghosyan and Liana Gyurjyan — will begin their competition.
