On April 20 in Batumi (Georgia), the second competition day of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships took place. Medals were contested in the men’s 60 kg and 65 kg categories, as well as in the women’s 58 kg division.
In the men’s 60 kg category, Bulgaria’s Angel Rusev claimed victory, becoming a six-time European champion. It was his first title in a heavier weight class, having previously competed in the now-discontinued 55 kg division. Armenia’s Garnik Cholakyan lost to the winner by just 1 kg.
In the 65 kg category, the main favorite — world champion from Turkey, Muhammed Furkan Ozbek — also secured gold. He became a three-time European champion.
In the women’s 58 kg division, Ukraine’s Kamila Konotop won her fourth European title, taking all three gold medals in her weight category. The silver medal went to Armenia’s Alexandra Grigoryan, who moved up to a heavier weight class.
After two competition days, Bulgaria leads the medal table in big medals with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
Team Armenia currently has 2 big silver medals.
