Armenian Chess Players Kick Off FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championship in Doha

From December 26 to 30, the 2025 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship is taking place in Doha, the capital of Qatar. One of the most prestigious tournaments on the chess calendar will gather the strongest players in the world, and Armenia will be represented by a strong team.
Eight Armenian players will compete in the open championship. Competing for medals are Aik Martirosyan, Aram Akopyan, Robert Ovannisyan, Mamikon Garibyan, Emin Oganian, Shant Sargsyan, Artur Davtyan, and Robert Piliposyan.
In the women's championship, Armenia will be represented by four athletes: Elina Danielyan, Lilit Mkrtchyan, Mariam Mkrtchyan, and Susanna Gaboyan.
The rapid chess competitions will be held from December 26 to 28, while the blitz championship will take place on December 29–30. These tournaments are traditionally dynamic and spectacular, where every decision on the board can be decisive.
Currently, Shant Sargsyan is performing best among the Armenian team, having won 3 games and drawn 4 out of 7.
