Amoyan Reaches the European Championship 2026 Final, Rematch with Zoidze Ahead
Armenian wrestler Malkhas Amoyan (77 kg) has advanced to the final of the 2026 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship taking place in Batumi. In the semifinal bout, he defeated Moldova’s Alexandrin Guțu with a score of 3:1.
In the decisive match, Amoyan will face Georgia’s Ramaz Zoidze. This will be a repeat of last year’s final, where the Armenian athlete confidently won 3:1 to claim the European title.
Amoyan’s Dominant Path to the Final
Throughout the tournament, Amoyan demonstrated dominant wrestling:
- victory over Irfan Mirzoev (Ukraine) — 10:0
- victory over Karl Baff (Sweden) — 4:0
- semifinal win over Guțu (Moldova) — 3:1
Amoyan’s final opponent is also in excellent form: Zoidze crushed Hungary’s Robert Fritsch 8:0 in the semifinal.
Armenia National Team Situation
At the moment, Amoyan is the only Armenian wrestler to reach the final after the first day of competition. However, the team still has medal chances:
- Manvel Khachatryan (55 kg) — will compete directly for bronze
- Karen Aslanyan (63 kg) — via repechage
- Gevorg Tadevosyan (87 kg) — via repechage
- Albert Vardanyan (130 kg) — via repechage
