Hayk Martirosyan Defeats Magnus Carlsen at the World Blitz Chess Championship in Doha

Armenian grandmaster Hayk Martirosyan claimed a high-profile victory over Norway’s Magnus Carlsen at the World Blitz Chess Championship taking place in Doha.
The game, in which Martirosyan played with the white pieces, ended after move 69. In an equal position, Carlsen made a series of mistakes, lost several pieces, and was eventually defeated.
The first symbolic move of the game was made by former Real Madrid striker Joselu, who currently plays in the Qatari league.
After 14 rounds out of 19, Hayk Martirosyan has scored 10 points and is in 12th place in the standings. Magnus Carlsen, with 9 points, is ranked 23rd. The tournament leaders have 11 points each.
The World Blitz Chess Championship in Doha is ongoing.
