European Weightlifting Championships 2026: Favorites and Declared Weights
Today, April 19, the European Weightlifting Championships begin in Batumi (Georgia). The tournament will run until April 26 and has already made history before its official start.
Prize Money Introduced for the First Time
For the first time in the history of the European Championships, athletes will receive prize money directly from the organizers. The Georgian Weightlifting Federation has independently established a prize fund.
In each of the three disciplines, the following payouts are предусмотрены:
- 1st place — €1,500
- 2nd place — €1,000
- 3rd place — €500
Thus, the overall winner of a weight category can earn up to €4,500.
Previously, prize money was awarded only through national federations.
Expanded Line-Up of Participants
The 2026 Championships will also serve as a qualification tournament for the Commonwealth Games, significantly expanding the geography of participating teams.
Competing in Batumi:
- Jersey, Gibraltar, Isle of Man
- South Africa (competing out of contest)
- Separate teams from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland
- As well as a unified Great Britain team
