On March 1, the prestigious international boxing tournament “Strandja Cup 2026” concluded in Sofia. Athletes from 35 countries took part in the competition.

Ten boxers represented the Armenian national team at the tournament. The team managed to win one medal — Anush Grigoryan (51 kg) claimed bronze.

For Armenia, this was the first tournament held under the auspices of the new World Boxing federation. The performance cannot be described as entirely successful; however, it marked the beginning of a new stage and provided important competitive experience for the team.

Team leaders Davit Chaloyan (+90 kg) and Narek Manasyan (90 kg) were defeated in their opening bouts. Zhirayr Sargsyan (55 kg), Artur Saakyan (65 kg), and Elida Kocharyan (65 kg) also exited the tournament in the early rounds. Rudolf Garboyan (50 kg), Artur Bazeyan (60 kg), Harutyun Hakobkokhyan (70 kg), and Marat Mikaelyan (75 kg) each secured one victory.
