“I Have Not Retired from the Armenia National Team” — Ognjen Čančarević

Armenia national team goalkeeper Ognjen Čančarević commented on his absence from the squad list for the March international friendlies. The goalkeeper gave the interview to the Telegram channel InsideYAN.

Earlier, the Football Federation of Armenia published a list of players playing abroad who were called up for the upcoming training camp, but Čančarević was not included.

According to the goalkeeper, the decision to skip the March matches was made jointly with the national team’s coaching staff.

“We spoke with Yeghishe Melikyan and the national team’s goalkeeping coach Stepan Demirchyan. We jointly decided that I would miss the March camp so that other goalkeepers could get playing time. The head coach of the national team will give chances to other goalkeepers in the friendly matches as well.

Melikyan told me to keep myself in good shape. He also did not want to disturb me since I recently moved to Serbia,” Čančarević said.

The goalkeeper emphasized that he has not ended his career with the national team and hopes to receive another call-up.

“I have not retired from the Armenia national team. I hope I will receive another call-up. Right now I’m getting regular playing time in the Serbian league and staying in good form,” he noted.

The Armenia national team will play friendly matches in March against Belarus and the United Arab Emirates.

Goalkeepers Henry Avagyan, Arsen Beglaryan, Arsen Nersesyan, Gor Matinyan, or Alexander Mishiev (from Urartu) are expected to get a chance to prove themselves in these matches.

The final list of players from the Armenian Premier League who will be called up to the national team will be announced later.
