The European U23 Boxing Championships under the auspices of World Boxing — an analogue of the recent U23 championship in Yerevan held under the IBA — have concluded in Budapest. Unlike the Yerevan event, the Armenian national team did not travel to Hungary to participate.
However, Armenian boxer Gor Ayvazyan, representing Georgia in the 55 kg category, won a bronze medal. During the tournament, he achieved two convincing victories — over Azerbaijan’s Amir Mammadzada and Austria’s Hassan Imara. After an emotional win against the Azerbaijani boxer, Ayvazyan wrote: “The war continues.”
In the semifinals, Ayvazyan lost to future finalist Abdul Rahman Burton from England and finished the competition with bronze.
Polish boxers won four gold medals — all in the women's category — finishing first in the team standings. England claimed three gold medals, while France, Ukraine, and Turkey earned two each.
