On August 2, Borussia Mönchengladbach hosted a friendly match against Spanish club Valencia. The game ended with a 2-0 victory for the home side.
22-year-old Armenian national team forward Grant-Leon Ranos came on right after the break. In the 50th minute, he delivered a precise cross from the flank to Wael Moya, who was fouled in the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty. Borussia’s new signing Kevin Diks confidently converted the spot-kick, sealing the final 2-0 score.

Before the start of the season, Borussia Mönchengladbach will play two more friendly matches against English side Brentford on August 8 and 9.
Grant-Leon Ranos is actively participating in the team’s preseason matches, trying to secure a place in the squad, something he failed to do in the previous two seasons. This summer, the club refused to loan him out as they were searching for a replacement for the departed Alassane Pléa. However, a few days ago, Gladbach signed Japanese striker Shuto Machino for €8 million. He can play behind the main striker, like Pléa, which once again makes Ranos’ prospects uncertain.
Nevertheless, several attacking players (Ngoumou, Kleindienst, Herrmann) are currently injured, which may give the Armenian forward a chance to gain playing time in the first rounds of the Bundesliga.
Before the start of the season, Grant-Leon played several decent matches but has yet to make a direct impact with goals or assists.
