Armenia national team and Rubin Kazan midfielder Ugochukwu Iwu has undergone surgery. The timeline for his return remains unknown at this stage. The news was confirmed by head coach Frank Artiga.
According to the coach, the squad situation remains difficult due to a large number of injuries:
“The thing is, we already had eight injured players at the start of the training camp, and many of them suffered fairly serious injuries. As for Iwu, we cannot give an exact return date — surgery has been performed.”
Artiga also noted that injury issues could affect Rubin’s transfer plans:
“If we talk about specific positions, probably midfield. Iwu and Shvets are injured, and Kuzyayev suffered an unexpected injury — a rib fracture. We will discuss this issue with the sporting director. Reinforcements would not hurt.”
In the current Russian Premier League season, Iwu has played 14 matches and provided 3 assists. He has also made 21 appearances for the Armenia national team.
At the moment, Rubin are completing their winter training camp in Turkey. The season will resume on February 28 with a match against Dynamo Makhachkala.
