41-year-old Vancouver 2010 Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn suffered a severe crash during the downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
The American alpine skier arrived at her fifth Olympic Games after returning to elite competition and previously undergoing surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Vonn had a confident build-up to the Games and was considered one of the main favorites in the downhill.
However, in the upper section of the course, the athlete clipped a gate, which resulted in a very heavy fall. According to initial signs, Lindsey may have injured her knee again. She was unable to stand up on her own, and the medical team decided to evacuate her by helicopter.
At the moment, there is no official information about Vonn’s health condition. It is reported that there is no threat to her life, but the likelihood of a serious injury remains high.
Lindsey Vonn started with bib number 13. The downhill race was the first medal event of the second competition day at the 2026 Olympic Games.
