New Ararat-Armenia midfielder Zidane Banjaqui has received high praise from Portuguese coach Nuno Manta Santos, who previously worked with the player at CD Aves in Portugal’s top division.
According to the coach, Banjaqui made a bright impression from the very start of his career at the top level.
“Zidane made his top-flight debut in a home match against Braga. We won 1–0 that day. He has excellent technique and strong individual qualities. He’s creative, powerful in one-on-one situations, not afraid to take responsibility, and works hard for the team. On top of that, he has always been a very humble guy,” Santos said.
The specialist emphasized that with age and experience, the player’s potential has grown even more.
“Now, being older and understanding the game better, he’s capable of truly unlocking his full potential. He was a bit unlucky with injuries that slowed his progress — otherwise he would already be at another level. He has all the qualities to stand out at Ararat-Armenia and reach an even bigger stage.”
Santos also highlighted the footballer’s versatility.
“He’s a well-rounded player. He can bring creativity to the team, the ability to break down defenses, and to decide key moments. He’s now stronger in attacking actions and in decision-making.”
Banjaqui is aiming for the title
Zidane Banjaqui himself arrives in Armenia with serious ambitions. The footballer is motivated to fight for titles together with the league leaders.
The midfielder can play on the left wing in attack, behind the strikers, or in a deeper central midfield role. In his last full season in Portugal, he was one of the best players in the second division, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists.
Despite having several offers, including options to return to Portugal, Banjaqui chose Ararat-Armenia. The club’s ambitious sporting project and the opportunity to compete for trophies played a key role.
His departure from Greek side Panserraikos was linked to dissatisfaction with the proposed project and conditions. Now the player is determined to prove his level and is confident he will bring great value to his new team.
