After Round 17 of the Armenian championship, the battle for the title is intensifying. As many as five teams still have realistic chances of finishing first, and the next two rounds could significantly change the situation at the top of the standings.
At the moment, Ararat-Armenia remains the leader with 34 points. Close behind are Pyunik and Alashkert with 32 points each. Urartu sits in fourth place with 30 points, while the reigning champion Noah closes the group of title contenders with 26 points.
At the same time, Pyunik and Noah both have a game in hand.
Mirror rounds
The next two rounds of the championship will be “mirror rounds.” This means that teams will play two consecutive matches against the same opponent.
The main clash is expected between Pyunik and Alashkert.
Both teams are in the top three, so their head-to-head meetings could directly influence the title race.
The other title contenders will face teams from the lower half of the table:
-
Noah — twice against Shirak
-
Ararat-Armenia — twice against Van
-
Urartu — twice against BKMA
If the favorites manage to confirm their status, they could strengthen their positions in the standings, while the duel between Pyunik and Alashkert could significantly reshape the top of the table.
A chance for Ararat
An interesting battle is also expected in the lower part of the standings. Ararat, which is currently in the relegation zone, will play two matches against Gandzasar. These games could give the Yerevan side a chance to escape the danger zone.
At the same time, it should be noted that the club from Kapan worked actively in the winter transfer market and significantly strengthened its squad, unlike Ararat.
Before the start of Round 18, fans will also see another important event.
On March 12, the Armenian Super Cup match will take place between Noah and Ararat-Armenia.
This match will be an additional test for the two clubs, which are also involved in the title race.
The reigning champion Noah made headlines in European competitions by becoming the first Armenian club in history to reach the UEFA Europa Conference League playoffs. However, in the domestic league Sandro Perković’s team is currently in 5th place.
