Armenia national team midfielder Eduard Spertsyan is eagerly anticipating the upcoming match against Portugal, especially the chance to meet Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Of course, I’m looking forward to this game. I don’t like comparing Messi and Ronaldo — for me, both are unique, and we may not see players like them for another 30 years. I’ll try to exchange shirts with Cristiano after the match,” Spertsyan told Championat.
The Armenia–Portugal clash will take place on September 6 in Yerevan and will mark the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign for both teams.
There is a strong chance that Spertsyan will lead the national team onto the pitch as captain. Following Varazdat Haroyan’s retirement from international football, he is considered the main candidate for the leadership role. Thus, the match in Yerevan could be special for both captains — Spertsyan and Ronaldo.
