FIFA Rankings to Be Updated in Real Time

FIFA has announced a revolutionary update to its national team world ranking system: positions will now change in real time during matches.
The new system will allow fans worldwide to track provisional rankings that update буквально with every goal scored. This means:
-
Changes in the table will occur during matches;
-
Team positions will depend on the current scorelines in games around the world;
-
Final rankings will only be confirmed after the international window ends.
When the innovation starts
The system will be tested for the first time in men’s football in March 2026 during international friendlies and World Cup 2026 playoff matches.
Women’s rankings, also managed by FIFA, will receive a similar update in April 2026.
Since their introduction in 1992, men’s rankings were published only after all international matches in a given window had concluded. The women’s version, introduced in 2003, followed the same principle.
Now, FIFA is moving toward greater interactivity and audience engagement, turning rankings from a static report into a dynamic tool that reflects teams’ current form.
