Five Judokas to Represent Armenia at the 2026 European Championships

From April 16 to 19, the 2026 European Judo Championships for seniors will take place in Tbilisi, Georgia. Armenia will be represented by five athletes—more than in the previous two years (three participants each), while in 2023 the team was not represented at all.
Armenia’s squad for the 2026 European Championships
60 kg: Ashik Andreyan, Vahe Aghasyan
66 kg: Davit Abrahamyan
73 kg: Artak Torosyan
100 kg: Gor Karapetyan
Additionally, Arman Adamyan (100 kg) will compete as part of the Russian team.
Armenian Athlete overview
The Armenian team will be one of the youngest in the tournament, with athletes aged 20 to 23.
Ashik Andreyan (22)
Competed at the 2024 and 2025 European Championships. Finished 5th in 2025, narrowly missing a medal. Winner of the 2023 Francophonie Games, bronze medalist at the 2024 U23 European Championships, and 2023 U20 European champion.
Vahe Aghasyan (20)
Had an outstanding 2025 season, becoming Armenia’s top judoka. Won gold at the 2025 U23 European Championships. Has not yet competed at senior European Championships.
Davit Abrahamyan (23)
Last competed internationally in judo in 2022. From 2022 to 2025, focused mainly on sambo competitions.
Artak Torosyan (21)
Replaced European champion Ferdinand Karapetyan. Participated in the 2024 and 2025 European Championships and four Grand Slam events.
Gor Karapetyan (20)
One of Armenia’s top young talents. Became world cadet champion in 2022. Also a medalist at several European Cup events.
Team outlook
Armenia is not currently among the medal favorites, but the team stands out for its youth and potential. The main hopes are pinned on Ashik Andreyan, Vahe Aghasyan and Gor Karapetyan, who could significantly improve their rankings and contend for Olympic qualification by 2028.
