Southampton are ready to part ways with 21-year-old midfielder Matheus Fernandes to free up a squad place and budget ahead of a potential purchase of Eduard Spertsyan from Krasnodar.
An academy product of Sporting Lisbon, Fernandes recorded two goals and four assists in last season’s Premier League. Following the club’s relegation to the Championship, he has made it clear he wants to play in the top flight again.
Several English teams are interested in the midfielder, and West Ham are considering a move worth around €50 million.
Earlier reports said Southampton had offered Krasnodar about €12 million for Spertsyan’s transfer.
Eduard Spertsyan is viewed as a possible replacement for Fernandes.
