Lithuanian midfielder Matas Vareika, previously playing for Yerevan’s “Pyunik,” has officially joined Lithuanian club “Žalgiris.”
After returning from injury, Vareika was unable to secure a spot in Pyunik’s starting lineup and mostly appeared as a substitute this season, playing 13 matches without scoring.
Last season, he scored 8 goals in 15 matches, earning him regular call-ups to the Lithuanian national team.
One reason for his limited playing time at Pyunik was the foreign player limit: the left-wing attacking position was occupied by players with Armenian passports, Gevorg Tarakhchyan and Edgar Malakyan.
