Narek Mkrtchyan wins silver at the U20 European Weightlifting Championships

19-year-old Armenian weightlifter Narek Mkrtchyan (79 kg category) won the silver medal at the U20 European Weightlifting Championships.
Mkrtchyan placed 4th in the snatch and 2nd in the clean & jerk. His total of 338 kg (150+188) was just 2 kg behind the winner, Ravin Almammadov of Azerbaijan (340 kg / 151+189).
During the competition, Mkrtchyan set European youth records in the clean & jerk and total, but these were soon surpassed by Almammadov.
Another Armenian lifter, Martin Poghosyan, earned a small bronze medal in the clean & jerk (182 kg) but failed all three snatch attempts, finishing without a total.
