In recent years, Yerevan City Hall has placed special emphasis on the development and promotion of sports, viewing it as an important factor in strengthening public health and fostering an active lifestyle. This year alone, 11 major international tournaments were held in the capital in cooperation with sports federations, five of which were included in the official calendars of international federations.
Within the framework of this policy, the best Yerevan athletes and coaches were honored, along with individuals who have worked in the field of sports for many years and made a significant contribution to enhancing the reputation of the city and the country on the international stage.
Medalists of World and European Championships received monetary awards: athletes were awarded 3 million drams, while their coaches received 1 million drams. However, the size of the awards was not the same for everyone. Thus, European weightlifting championship medalist Simon Martirosyan received 500,000 drams, and the same amount was awarded to World Championship medalist Suren Harutyunyan.
Awards of 3 million drams were presented to Greco-Roman wrestling world champion Malkhas Amoyan, World Boxing Championship medalists Artur Bazeyan and Rafael Hovhannisyan, shooter Elmira Karapetyan, weightlifter Liana Gyurjyan, gymnasts Hamlet Manukyan, Mamikon Khachatryan and Artur Davtyan, as well as wrestler Karen Aslanyan.
City Hall emphasized that Yerevan intends to further strengthen its position as one of the leading centers of sports life in the region by consistently developing sports infrastructure and supporting sports at the community level.
