The Meeting in Milan
Earlier, Melikyan had stated his intention to personally meet the experienced midfielder during his visit to Italy. The national team coach attended the central match of Serie A Round 25 — Inter vs. Juventus (3:2), held at San Siro (Giuseppe Meazza Stadium).
One of the key storylines surrounding the visit was the possibility of dialogue between the coach and the former national team captain. It is now confirmed that the meeting took place, and Melikyan fulfilled his promise.
Mkhitaryan’s Position on the National Team
Despite strong interest from fans and active media discussion, Mkhitaryan reiterated his previous stance: his main focus remains performing at the highest level with Inter.
The midfielder continues to compete in one of Europe’s strongest leagues and is fully committed to his club’s objectives.
Return to the National Team: Case Closed?
At this stage, a return to the national team is not being discussed. However, the very fact that the coach and former captain held talks indicates that professional communication remains open.
What This Means for Armenia
Melikyan’s activity across European leagues demonstrates a systematic approach to building Armenia’s national team squad. The coaching staff maintains direct contact with leading Armenian players and closely monitors their form.
Although Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s return is not currently planned, the Milan meeting has become a significant news topic and one of the most discussed stories among Armenian fans.
The Armenian national team continues preparations for the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign, while the coaching staff works on strengthening the squad.
