Marco Rossi announces Hungary’s squad for the match against Armenia: two newcomers and faith in the leaders

The Hungarian national team has announced its roster for the decisive 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Armenia and Ireland. Head coach Marco Rossi kept the core that he has relied on throughout the campaign, adding only two new players. Hungary will arrive in Yerevan on November 13, fully aware that the game at the Republican Stadium could be decisive in the battle for second place.

“There’s no reason to change things radically”
“Only three weeks have passed since our last matches, so there’s no reason to make drastic changes. The team played well. We’ve been following the newcomers for a while, and we need more attacking options in case of substitutions,” Rossi told the Hungarian Football Federation website.

The Italian coach also spoke about the Armenian team, noting that Armenia had shown solid defensive discipline and the ability to hold a necessary scoreline — including in the away match against Ireland, where red cards affected the result. That’s why the Hungarians are preparing for a tough game in Yerevan.

On November 13, Hungary will face Armenia in Yerevan, and on November 16 they will host Ireland at the Puskás Aréna. According to Rossi, the goal for November is clear: to win in Armenia to approach the final round in the best possible position — and to win at home for the fans and the ranking.

“In Armenia we must do everything to win — then we’ll see where we stand before the final round. But we also want to win at home against Ireland. We know the challenges our opponents can present, so we’ll try to prepare in the best possible way,” Rossi said.

What it means for Armenia

For Armenian fans, this is essentially the autumn finale: Hungary is coming with its strongest lineup and without experiments. Rossi makes it clear that he expects a difficult match in Yerevan and has carefully studied how Armenia held off Ireland in Dublin. This suggests that the Hungarians are expecting a tight, possibly low-scoring game — and will try to decide it through their attacking quality.

It’s also notable that the Hungarian Football Federation, together with title sponsor Wizz Air, has arranged two additional return flights from Yerevan for fans. That’s another signal that Hungary views this trip as crucial and wants maximum support from the stands.
