American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn has undergone surgery following a severe crash during the Olympic downhill event. According to her representatives, the 41-year-old Vonn was diagnosed with a complex leg fracture, a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a bone bruise, and meniscus damage.

The surgery was successful. Lindsey is currently in stable condition and remains under medical supervision. There is no threat to her life, but a lengthy recovery period lies ahead.

Vonn returned to elite competition for the 2026 Olympic Games and was considered one of the favorites in the downhill. During her run, she clipped a gate in the upper section of the course and suffered a brutal fall. She was unable to stand up on her own and was evacuated by helicopter.

The downhill event was the first medal competition of the second day of the Olympics. Lindsey Vonn started with bib number 13, but her performance was cut short due to injury.

Another American skier, Breezy Johnson, claimed victory.
