Armenian freestyle wrestler Levik Mikayelyan (61 kg weight category) has advanced to the final of the U23 European Championship taking place in Zrenjanin, Serbia.
In the semifinal bout, Mikaelyan confidently defeated Turkey’s Tolga Ozbek with a score of 10:3, securing his place in the tournament’s final.
On his way to the final, the Armenian wrestler also defeated opponents from Bulgaria and Moldova.
The final bout will take place on March 11, where Mikaelyan will face Azerbaijan’s Jeyhun Allahverdiyev. Notably, the two wrestlers already met in the final of last year’s U23 European Championship. At that time, Mikaelyan won 2:1 and became the champion of the tournament.
Thus, the upcoming bout will serve as a kind of rematch of last year’s final.
It should be noted that Levik Mikayelyan is the only representative of the Armenian national team who has reached the final of the current U23 European Championship in Zrenjanin.
Today, three more Armenian wrestlers will compete for bronze medals, while two others will wrestle in the repechage round tomorrow.
