Karen Zakharyan advances to the Futures Cup U19 Round of 16 in Bangkok

Armenian boxer Karen Zakharyan (60 kg) claimed his second victory at the international Futures Cup U19 tournament taking place in Bangkok.

In the Round of 32 bout, Zakharyan confidently defeated Finland’s Veeti Vahatiito. The judges unanimously awarded the victory to the Armenian athlete, allowing him to advance to the Round of 16 of the competition.

Karen Zakharyan’s next opponent will be Ukrainian boxer Ivan Shulkha.

It should be noted that the Futures Cup U19 serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

In total, three Armenian boxers are representing Armenia at the tournament. Tigran Kirakosyan (50 kg) has already finished his performance, while Suren Katvalyan (65 kg) will have his first bout on March 11.
