Russian tennis player of Armenian descent Karen Khachanov (ATP No. 17) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious ATP tournament in Doha.
In the Round of 16, Khachanov defeated Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics (ATP No. 61) in a hard-fought battle. The match lasted three sets and ended 6–2, 4–6, 6–4.
Khachanov started confidently, dominating the opening set with a powerful serve and aggressive return game. In the second set, Fucsovics raised his level, engaged in longer rallies, and leveled the match. In the decisive set, Khachanov stayed composed in key moments, secured a crucial break, and closed out the match.
In the quarterfinal, the Russian will face the winner of the clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Valentin Royer.
With high probability, Khachanov could meet world No. 1 Alcaraz. The head-to-head record does not favor Karen — he has lost all five of their previous encounters.
Nevertheless, reaching the quarterfinals in Doha is an important achievement for Khachanov, who continues his fight for the title and valuable ranking points.
