The prestigious Masters tennis tournament continues in Toronto, where Karen Khachanov, of Armenian descent and representing Russia, has advanced to the men’s singles semifinal.
In the quarterfinal, the world No. 16 confidently defeated American Alex Michelsen 6–4, 7–6. The match, lasting 1 hour and 46 minutes, was broadcast live on “Fast Sport” TV channel.
Khachanov’s next opponent will be Olympic champion Alexander Zverev of Germany, who overcame Australian Alexei Popyrin in his quarterfinal — 6–7, 6–4, 6–3.
This season has already become historic for Khachanov: for the first time in his career, he has reached the semifinals of ATP tournaments on all three surfaces — hard, grass, and clay — in the same year. Before Toronto, this happened in Barcelona (clay) and Halle (grass).
In the other semifinal, Australia’s Alex de Minaur will face American Ben Shelton, while Russia’s Andrey Rublev will meet USA’s Taylor Fritz.
