On February 28, the semifinals of the international Strandja Cup 2026 tournament took place in Sofia. The semifinal day once again confirmed the event’s status as one of the strongest season-opening competitions. Medalists of world and continental championships faced off in the ring, while the geography of the finals spans almost all of Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, as well as the USA and Australia.
The main trend of the day was the powerful performance of the Uzbekistan national team — its representatives advanced to a large number of finals in both the women’s and men’s brackets. Boxers from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Brazil also looked confident. In several weight categories, the outcome was decided by split decisions, highlighting the exceptionally high level of competition.
In the Armenian team, Anush Grigoryan (51 kg) won a bronze medal after losing in the semifinal. The other Armenian boxers did not reach the semifinals.
The finals will take place on March 1.
