The Most Athletic Region of Armenia in 2025 Announced

The results of the 2025 sports ranking of the regions of the Republic of Armenia and the city of Yerevan have been summarized. According to the published results, Vayots Dzor region took first place, Kotayk region ranked second, and Gegharkunik region completed the top three.
The ranking was compiled in accordance with the procedure approved by the order of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia. A number of indicators reflecting the development of mass sports and the level of public involvement in sports activities were taken into account when creating the rating scale.
Key Evaluation Criteria
The following indicators were considered when determining the ranking of the regions:
• Participation of the population in mass sports events organized by the ministry
• Share of schoolchildren attending sports schools
• Number of sports clubs and sections in general education schools
• Share of physical education teachers who passed voluntary certification
• Share of coaches and instructors of sports schools who passed voluntary certification
• Involvement of schoolchildren and educational institutions in mass sports events
Based on these indicators, the highest average result was recorded in Vayots Dzor region — about 27.9%. It is followed by Kotayk region (22.2%) and Gegharkunik region (20.9%).

Incentives for Top Regions
The regions or the city of Yerevan that ranked in the top three receive sports equipment worth:

8 million drams — first place

5 million drams — second place

3 million drams — third place
The list of necessary sports equipment and the recipient organization are determined by the prize-winning participants themselves.
The ranking is compiled and published annually as part of the implementation of Armenia’s Physical Culture and Sports Development Strategy for 2024–2030.
