The Armenian Premier League Matchday 2 game between Ararat and Van, originally scheduled for August 9 at 20:00 at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, has been moved to the stadium in Abovyan. The match will take place on the same day but will now kick off at 17:00.
The reason for the relocation is the condition of the Republican Stadium’s pitch after the Jennifer Lopez concert, held on August 3 as part of the singer’s Up All Night world tour. According to Sputnik Armenia, hosting a football match at the venue in the coming days is impossible, as the pitch requires restoration.
Stadium director Ashot Barseghyan told Sputnik Armenia that the grass on the field has slightly yellowed but, in his opinion, could recover quickly. At the same time, experts do not rule out that more time may be needed to bring the pitch in line with regulatory standards.
It should be noted that on August 14, the Republican Stadium is scheduled to host the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round match between Ararat-Armenia and Sparta Prague, and on September 6, the Armenian national team will face Portugal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
