The second Milan derby of the season once again ended in victory for Milan. Just like in the first meeting, Massimiliano Allegri’s team secured a 1–0 win.
The only goal of the match came in the 35th minute when Pervis Estupiñán scored after a brilliant pass from Youssouf Fofana. Just a minute earlier, Henrikh Mkhitaryan missed a great opportunity. The 37-year-old Armenian midfielder drove through the center of Milan’s defense but shot straight down the middle, and the ball went directly into the hands of Mike Maignan. Shortly afterward, Milan launched a counterattack and converted their chance.
After conceding, Inter had another dangerous moment, again involving Mkhitaryan. Henrikh passed the ball to Federico Dimarco, but the Italian fired over the crossbar from an excellent position.
Despite the defeat, Inter remain top of the Serie A table, although Milan have reduced the gap to seven points. As a result, the race for the Scudetto continues. At the same time, Inter once again showed that they are struggling against top teams this season.
Mkhitaryan started the match in the starting lineup and played 59 minutes before being substituted by Petar Sučić.
