Ireland national team head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson shared his expectations ahead of the upcoming match against Armenia’s national team.
At a press conference, the coach noted that the opponent would try to start the game actively and take advantage of having an extra recovery day.
“I’m sure that Armenia will attack a lot tomorrow, and we’ll have open spaces. In the last three games, we conceded early goals, and they will likely try to take their chances at the start, so we need to be ready from the very beginning,” Hallgrímsson emphasized.
According to him, Ireland’s key task is to defend reliably and not allow the opponent to use its strengths.
“Armenia is a fast counterattacking team. Their main strength is the ability to quickly switch the ball from one flank to the other. We need to play as we did in the second half against Hungary: don’t give them space and finish our attacks as quickly as possible. I think that’s what worries me the most,” he added.
The Armenia vs Ireland match will take place tomorrow, September 9, in Yerevan, kicking off at 20:00 local time.
