Yeghishe Melikyan, head coach of the Armenian national football team, attended the central fixture of Serie A Round 25 between Inter and Juventus (3:2). The information was reported by the Football Federation of Armenia.
The match took place at the legendary San Siro (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza) and drew tens of thousands of spectators. However, the primary focus of the Armenian coach’s visit was not only the game itself, but also monitoring potential national team candidates.
Melikyan continues his practice of personally attending European league matches featuring Armenian players (he previously watched games involving Tiknizyan, Bandikyan, and Spertsyan). This approach allows the coaching staff to maintain direct contact with players and evaluate their form under high-level competitive conditions.
Possible Dialogue with Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Special attention is focused on Inter midfielder and former Armenia captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Earlier, Melikyan stated his intention to meet the experienced midfielder in Milan to discuss a possible return to the national team.
Whether such a meeting took place after the match against Juventus has not been officially confirmed. Nevertheless, the very fact that the national team head coach attended a match featuring Mkhitaryan adds intrigue regarding the midfielder’s future with Armenia.
What This Means for the Armenian National Team
With upcoming international tournaments on the horizon, Melikyan’s active presence across European competitions may indicate systematic work aimed at strengthening the Armenian national team. A potential return of Mkhitaryan would represent both a sporting and symbolic boost for the squad.
While no official statements have been made, the Milan visit has already become one of the most discussed topics among Armenian football fans.
