Armenian wrestler Janes Nazaryan won the gold medal at the Cadet World Championships (U17) in Athens, competing in the 65 kg weight category. In a tense final, Nazaryan defeated Georgian Erekle Tavberidze 5:4, taking revenge for his loss in the final of the U17 European Championships a month earlier.
On his way to the world title, the Armenian wrestler showed excellent form. In the quarterfinals, he dominated European bronze medalist Kilian Eddou of France (6:0), after confidently defeating Azerbaijan’s Huseyn Isgandarov (9:1) and the USA’s Arsenii Kikinov (4:1). In the semifinals, Nazaryan prevailed over Ukraine’s Yehor Tarasenko with a 3:1 victory.
This gold medal became the Armenian team’s first award at the World Championships in Athens, which started on July 28.
