On October 19, the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships kicked off in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The first day featured the men’s qualification rounds for individual apparatus events.
Four of Armenia’s five gymnasts successfully advanced through qualification, reaching the finals in three apparatuses.
Eighteen-year-old European champion Hamlet Manukyan and 18-year-old European vice-champion Mamikon Khachatryan delivered excellent performances on the pommel horse, qualifying for the finals in third and fourth place, respectively. The young Armenian stars narrowly trailed behind gymnasts from Kazakhstan and the USA and will continue to compete for world championship medals. Notably, this marks the senior World Championship debut for both athletes.
On the rings, 27-year-old Artur Avetisyan placed eighth, securing a spot in the final. The most experienced member of the team, 37-year-old Vaagn Davtyan, unfortunately did not advance, finishing 13th overall.
Another European champion, Artur Davtyan, placed second in the vault qualification and also reached the final. The leader in this event was reigning Olympic champion Carlos Yulo of the Philippines. It was Yulo and Davtyan who battled for gold at the Paris Olympics, where the Armenian took silver. Their rivalry will continue in the World Championship final.
Several more gymnasts in each apparatus will compete on October 20 in two subgroups, the results may change.
