Armenian freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) won a bronze medal at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships held in Zagreb. In the bronze medal match, he defeated Mexico’s Roman Bravo Young with a score of 7:4. This was Harutyunyan’s fourth career world championship bronze medal.
Throughout the tournament, Harutyunyan claimed four impressive victories. In the round of 1/16, he dominated Ukraine’s Vladislav Abramov (10:0), then beat Mongolia’s Munkh Erdene Batkhuyag (13:8) in the round of 1/8. In the quarterfinals, he convincingly defeated Olympic silver medalist Spencer Lee of the USA (14:3). In the semifinals, the Armenian wrestler lost 1:4 to DPRK’s Chongsong Han, but managed to redeem himself in the bronze medal bout.
Chongsong Han, who beat Harutyunyan in the semifinals, went on to defeat Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzat Almaz Uulu in the final and became world champion.
Harutyunyan’s bronze medal was the only award won by the Armenian national team at the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Zagreb. Other members of the team — Arman Andreasyan, Vazgen Tevanyan, Manvel Khndzrtsyan, and Hrayr Alikhanyan — left the competition without medals.
The Greco-Roman wrestling tournament will kick off on September 18.
