Arsen Harutyunyan Defeats Spencer Lee to Reach 2025 World Championship Semifinals

Armenian freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) defeated American Olympic vice-champion Spencer Lee and reached the semifinals of the 2025 World Championship, which is being held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

Arsen started the tournament from the 1/16 finals, where he easily defeated Ukrainian Vladislav Abramov. It was more difficult for him in the 1/8 finals, but he still defeated Mongol Munkh Batkhung. American Olympic vice-champion Spencer Lee was waiting for him in the quarterfinals. The match was expected to be very difficult, but Arsen was motivated to win quickly, which he did: he won 14:3 and reached the semifinals of the World Championship.

Korean Chongsong Han is waiting for him in the semifinals. The Korean went through a weaker grid than Arsene, but still, the Koreans should not be underestimated.

Another representative of Armenia, Hrayr Alikhanyan (74 kg), lost to Iranian Yones Emamalihoghani in the 1/16 finals. The Iranian reached the 1/4, where Japanese vice-Olympic champion Kota Takashi awaits him. 

Semi-finals in weight categories up to 57, 74, 79 and 92 kg.They will take place today at 17:45 Moscow time.
