Armenian Greco-Roman Wrestlers Off to a Strong Start at the U20 World Championships

On August 21, the city of Samokov, Bulgaria, hosted the start of the 2025 U20 World Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling. On the first day, the preliminary rounds were held in the 60 kg and 82 kg weight categories.
Team Armenia was represented by Yurik Mkhitaryan (60 kg) and Martik Petrosyan (82 kg), who both advanced through the early rounds and reached the semifinals.

In the semifinal, Mkhitaryan will face India’s Suraj Suraj, who defeated Russia’s Papik Javadian in the quarterfinal. Suraj is considered one of the brightest prospects of his generation: U20 Asian champion, U17 world champion, and silver medalist of the senior Ranking Series in Ulaanbaatar.
