The Armenian national boxing team has completed its participation in the international FUTURES CUP U19 tournament in Bangkok (Thailand), which served as a mandatory qualification stage for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
Three Armenian boxers took part in the competition.
In the 50 kg weight category, Tigran Kirakosyan lost to a representative of Uzbekistan in his first bout and was eliminated from the tournament.
In the 60 kg division, Karen Zakharyan advanced to the Round of 16. On his way to that stage, he defeated opponents from Egypt and Finland, but then lost to a boxer from Ukraine.
In the 65 kg category, Suren Katvalyan also reached the Round of 16. The Armenian athlete started the tournament with a victory over a representative of Saudi Arabia but was defeated by a boxer from the United States in the next fight.
It is still unclear whether Armenian boxers will be able to compete at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. The FUTURES CUP U19 tournament served as a mandatory qualification stage, but the criteria for obtaining Olympic licenses based on the results of the competition have not yet been announced.
The FUTURES CUP U19 tournament will conclude on March 15.
