On February 22 at UFC Houston, promising welterweight Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani (10-2, UFC 1-0) defeated Phil Rowe (11-7, UFC 4-5) by split decision — 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.
Lebosnoyani’s debut in the world’s largest MMA promotion — Ultimate Fighting Championship — was truly impressive. Jean-Paul confidently took the first two rounds, demonstrating superiority in speed, accuracy, and distance control. In the third round, momentum partially shifted to Rowe, who managed to even out the contest, but the advantage built in the opening rounds proved enough for Lebosnoyani to secure the victory.
The bout was exciting and dynamic, with both fighters maintaining a high pace and frequently exchanging sharp attacks. Although one judge scored the fight in favor of the American, Lebosnoyani’s victory appeared convincing and well-deserved.
Jean-Paul has Armenian roots on his father’s side and Romanian roots on his mother’s side. His original paternal surname is Bosnoyan. His father, Nerses Bosnoyan, is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach originally from Armenia. The 27-year-old athlete earned his UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series, where he secured a stoppage victory over Jack Congdon and received a contract with the organization.
Before signing with the UFC, Lebosnoyani successfully competed in Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he challenged for the championship title and established himself as one of the most promising fighters in the division.
