The Armenian national team performed successfully at the 2026 World Youth Traditional Wushu Championship held in Tianjin, China, winning four medals in the combat discipline of wushu sanda.
Four Armenian athletes stood out in the competition:
- Karen Sahakyan (52 kg weight category) — silver medal
- Grisha Alikhanyan (45 kg) — bronze medal
- Ruben Melkonyan (56 kg) — bronze medal
- Tigran Tovmasyan (75 kg) — bronze medal
The tournament also served as a qualification stage for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. However, qualification was held exclusively in the taolu (forms) discipline. Armenia was represented in this category by Siranush Avagyan, who unfortunately did not manage to secure a medal.
It is worth noting that the combat discipline of wushu sanda will not be included in the program of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games due to the high level of contact and intensity of the bouts.
