The Armenian Federation of Mountaineering and Mountain Tourism has received full membership status in the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA). This was reported by the federation’s press service.
The decision to grant membership was unanimously approved at the UIAA General Assembly, which took place on October 23–26, 2025, in the city of Peja (Kosovo). The decision followed a year of intensive negotiations, during which the Armenian side presented its international partners with a detailed report on its activities, completed projects, and long-term development strategy in the field of mountaineering and mountain tourism.
As noted by Suren Danielyan, President of the Armenian Federation of Mountaineering and Mountain Tourism, obtaining UIAA membership opens new opportunities for the country.
“Now we will have access to global programs in mountain safety, instructor training, environmental protection, and sustainable development. This will strengthen Armenia’s role as a regional center for mountaineering, trekking, and mountain tourism. We are confident that membership will become a starting point for developing a new modern culture of ascents and mountain travel — based on responsibility, respect for nature, and high safety standards,” Danielyan said.
The federation believes that integration into the international professional community will not only raise the training level of athletes and instructors, but also increase Armenia’s appeal as a destination for mountain enthusiasts from around the world.
