Armenia will face Croatia in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Futsal Euro 2026. The match will take place in Kaunas, Lithuania, and promises to be one of the most intriguing playoff battles. A tournament debutant faces a team returning to the elite of European futsal — a showdown rich in form, spirit, and tournament intrigue.
The match is scheduled for January 31 at 19:00 CET (21:00 Moscow, 22:00 Yerevan).
Armenia – the breakthrough team of the tournament
This is Armenia’s first major international tournament, but their performance doesn’t look like that of a newcomer. They delivered vibrant and productive matches in the group stage.
The team opened with a comeback win over Ukraine and then secured a crucial 5–4 victory over the Czech Republic to guarantee top spot in Group B. The final match ended in a 3–3 draw with Lithuania after conceding in the final minutes, but it did not affect their standing.
Coach Ruben Nazaretyan praised the team’s performance and emphasized that they’re heading into the playoffs in great spirits. Armenia plays bold, attacking futsal and creates many chances.
“Looking back at the group stage, we played very well in all three games. We approach the Croatia match in a great mood,” said Ruben Nazaretyan.
Croatia gaining momentum
Croatia reached the quarterfinals through a hard-fought group. They drew 2–2 against both France and Georgia — dominating in shots but conceding late. In the decisive game against Latvia, Croatia came from behind to win 4–1.
This marks their first Euro quarterfinal since 2014, showing their steady progress, especially after their strong World Cup 2024 performance.
Coach Marinko Mavrović noted Armenia’s strength but remains confident.
“Armenia is a strong team, but we’ll prepare well. I believe we are better and will reach the semifinals. If someone told us before the tournament we’d play Armenia in the quarterfinal, we’d take it,” said Mavrović.
