Armenian UFC fighter Arman Tsarukyan has stated that he may receive a lightweight title shot as early as this fall. He revealed this in an interview following the controversial incident at the RAF 06 tournament.
According to Tsarukyan, a few weeks ago he had a conversation with one of the UFC’s key executives — Hunter Campbell, the second most influential figure in the organization after Dana White.
“I spoke with Hunter a couple of weeks ago. I have several options, one of which is a lightweight title fight in September or October. Right now we’re waiting for the results of two fights,” Tsarukyan said in an interview with Ariel Helwani immediately after the controversial altercation at RAF 06.
Which Fights Could Impact Tsarukyan’s Future
Most likely, he is referring to two key matchups in the division:
-
Charles Oliveira vs. Max Holloway (March 8);
-
A potential title fight between Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria.
The outcomes of these clashes could determine the future landscape of the championship race.
Two Possible Scenarios
Currently, two possible scenarios are being considered:
-
Tsarukyan receives an immediate title shot and faces the winner of Topuria vs. Gaethje.
-
Arman takes part in another title eliminator bout against the winner of Oliveira/Gaethje. This would happen if the winner of Gaethje/Topuria is unable to compete in the fall.
Thus, the Armenian fighter remains one of the top contenders for the UFC lightweight championship belt.
While the title picture becomes clearer, Tsarukyan remains active outside the UFC octagon.
On March 1, he competed in a freestyle wrestling match at RAF 06, and on March 11, he is scheduled to compete in a grappling bout at the Hype FC tournament in Brazil.
Despite the pause in MMA competition, Tsarukyan maintains his competitive rhythm and, judging by his statements, aims to headline the biggest fight of his career this fall.
