On February 17, the women’s singles short program took place at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. A total of 29 skaters competed, with 24 advancing to the free skate.
18-year-old Adelia Petrosian placed fifth with a score of 72.89 points. The Russian skater finished behind three representatives of Japan and one from the United States but confidently secured her place in the final segment of the competition.
Surprise Leader from Japan
The biggest sensation of the short program was 17-year-old Japanese skater Ami Nakai. With a score of 78.71 points, she claimed first place, surpassing the tournament favorite and her compatriot Kaori Sakamoto (77.23).
American skater Alysa Liu currently holds third place with 76.59 points.
Japan’s Mone Chiba rounded out the top four (74.00). Chiba opened her routine with a triple flip–triple toe loop combination, although the second jump was not perfectly clean. She later performed a confident double axel and triple lutz, but judges reviewed several elements, costing her some points. Despite this, she received warm support from the crowd and maintained fourth place.
Adelia Petrosian delivered a strong performance to songs by Michael Jackson and remains in medal contention.
